We’re an independent Medeco service provider working throughout Lakewood, and yes, we can handle your high-security cylinder, deadbolt, or key system. What makes our Medeco work different here is that we know the 1950 S&H tract housing stock and the way marine-layer humidity treats a Medeco sidebar. Call (855) 382-0290 and tell us what you’ve got. We’ve seen it before, and we’ll get it handled.
Why Lakewood Residents Choose Us for Medeco Service
Medeco isn’t a lock you hand to someone who mostly cuts Kwikset keys. The angled keyway, the rotating pin tumblers, the sidebar – they all demand a tech who works on this hardware regularly, not one who reads a manual on the drive over. Noel Camacho cut his teeth on high-security cylinder systems and spent the better part of two decades doing residential and commercial work across Anaheim and the surrounding cities, including Medeco in Bellflower and Lakewood. We’re independent, not factory-authorized, which means we service Medeco without the corporate overhead and without telling you to call someone else when the job gets specific.
Lakewood owners call us because we’re familiar with what’s on their doors. The Biaxial retrofits tucked into original mortise pockets. The Maxum deadbolts going onto stucco-over-frame jambs. The vintage brass entry sets still holding a block’s worth of identical keyways. We show up once, figure out what’s actually wrong, and fix it with genuine Medeco OEM parts – not generic blanks that strip the angled-cut geometry. Common Medeco Locksmith Problems We Solve in Lakewood
- Key goes in but won’t turn. Marine-layer dampness and salt air work into the rotating pin tumblers and sidebar of an exterior Medeco cylinder that hasn’t been lubricated in a few seasons. The key seats fine, then binds. We disassemble, clean, and re-lubricate with the right product, not WD-40.
- Deadbolt turns halfway and stops. On a 1950s S&H tract door, the wood frame swells after winter rain and the strike plate shifts out of alignment. The Medeco cylinder is fine. The jamb geometry isn’t. We realign the strike, not the lock.
- Worn or duplicate keys failing. Medeco keys wear at the angled bitting. A key copied on a cheap aftermarket blank drops tumblers and leaves you locked out of your own high-security cylinder. We cut fresh OEM Medeco keys to factory spec.
- Deadbolt walks out of the frame after a shoulder hit. Original Lakewood jamb strike plates were mounted with two short screws. A firm hit pulls them right out of the stucco-over-frame jamb. The Medeco lock is sound. The mounting isn’t. Long hardened screws into the stud fix that.
- Biaxial key hangs up in the cylinder. Biaxial keys duplicated on non-Medeco blanks lose their angled-cut geometry and start hanging. Owners misread that as a failing lock. It’s usually a failing key. We verify, then cut the right one.
Medeco Service in Lakewood: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Lakewood’s 90712 and 90713 S&H core still has blocks where every front door carries the same builder-issued brass entry lockset from 1950 or ’51. That means a locksmith who knows the vintage keyway can often rekey an entire block off a single key set – and that’s not something you’d find in neighboring cities with mixed housing stock. But those same doors hang on two-screw strike plates that fail before the Medeco cylinder ever does. If a resident retrofits a Medeco Biaxial or Maxum onto an original S&H door, the weak point isn’t the high-security cylinder sitting in the mortise pocket. It’s the two short screws in the jamb. A homeowner on the 1950 S&H tract streets near Mayfair Park had us out because her Medeco Maxum deadbolt would turn halfway and stop. The cylinder was fine, but the swollen stucco-over-frame jamb had thrown the strike out of line after winter rain. We realigned the strike, swapped the two short screws for long hardened ones into the stud, and rekeyed the Maxum to a fresh OEM Medeco key so the whole block’s matching brass entry sets stayed on one keyway. High-security hardware is only as good as the frame it’s mounted in, and Lakewood’s original frames need the same attention as the Medeco cylinder they hold.
Medeco Models & Products We Service in Lakewood
We work on Medeco Original and Classic conventional cylinders, first-generation Biaxial and Biaxial Plus, M3 and M4 cylinder systems, and the Maxum deadbolt. Each has different sidebar tolerances and different rekey requirements. We stock genuine Medeco OEM cylinders, tumblers, and key blanks for fast Lakewood turnaround. When a cylinder is worn past spec, we tell you plainly and quote a replacement – nobody should be patching a high-security lock into unreliability. For work in the neighboring city, see Medeco service in La Puente.
Medeco Service Pricing in Lakewood
Medeco service pricing depends on what we’re doing. A rekey typically runs $35 to $75 per cylinder, key duplication $8 to $18 per OEM Medeco key, and a full Maxum deadbolt install including hardware and labor comes in between $260 and $480. If we’re rebuilding a seized cylinder, that’s $80 to $140 for the service call, diagnostic, and teardown. When a customer needs more than three cylinders done at once, the per-cylinder rekey rate often shifts down. We quote the full price on the phone before anyone is dispatched, and that’s the price on the invoice – no dispatch fee tacked on when we arrive. Call (855) 382-0290 for an exact quote, because a vintage S&H door with a Biaxial retrofit is priced differently than a modern Maxum on a newer jamb. Estimates are free.

FAQs – Medeco Locksmith in Lakewood
Yes. We rekey Medeco cylinders on S&H tract homes regularly, including Biaxial and M3 systems retrofitted into original mortise pockets. The keyway and cylinder type determine the pinning, not the age of the door. We bring OEM Medeco pins and cut fresh OEM keys on site. Call (855) 382-0290 to schedule.
Marine-layer dampness and salt air get into the cylinder and cause the rotating pin tumblers to bind inside the plug, especially on exterior doors. The key seats, but the tumblers won’t rotate freely, so the plug can’t turn. The fix is a teardown, cleaning, and proper lubrication of the sidebar and tumblers. We handle this constantly for Lakewood exterior Medeco installations.
Not by itself. The Medeco deadbolt is excellent hardware, but the original S&H jamb strike plates were mounted with two short screws that pull out of the stucco-over-frame jamb with a firm shoulder hit. A high-security deadbolt on a weak mounting is not a secure door. We reinforce the jamb with long hardened screws into the stud as part of the install. Call (855) 382-0290 and we’ll tell you what your door actually needs.
Yes, but with limits. Medeco cylinders accept Medeco keys. Kwikset and Schlage accept their own. We can key them all so one ring carries a Medeco key for the high-security locks and a standard key for the rest, or we can install Medeco cylinders on all your doors and key them alike. It depends on what hardware you’ll let us touch. We’ll lay out your options on the phone before scheduling.
We carry genuine Medeco OEM key blanks on our service trucks, including Biaxial and M3 profiles. Same-day duplication is standard for most Lakewood calls. Aftermarket blanks don’t hold the angled-cut geometry and will eventually hang up, so we cut from OEM stock only. Call (855) 382-0290 with your key code or current key, and we’ll confirm availability before we roll.
